How we make money
BoomBapWax is free and has no paywall. It's paid for by affiliate links: when you click through to some shops and buy something, that shop pays us a small commission. You pay exactly the same price.
What that does and doesn't change
- We list shops that pay us nothing. Most hip-hop labels sell direct and have no affiliate programme. We link to them anyway, because that's often where the pressing is.
- The order of shops is not for sale. On release pages, offers are grouped by variant and sorted by price (in the shop's own currency, before shipping). Whether a shop pays a commission never affects its position.
- "Also search for it at" and second-hand buttons (HHV, Juno, JPC, CDJapan, eBay, CDandLP, Discogs) open a search for the release at that shop. They're always in the same order for visitors from the same country, nearest shop first. Some of these shops may pay us a commission; Discogs pays nothing.
- No paid placements today. If we ever feature a release because a label paid for it, it will be clearly labelled "Ad".
Affiliate programmes
We may take part in affiliate programmes including Amazon Associates. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Links that can earn a commission are marked rel="sponsored".
Click counting
Buy buttons go through /go/… on our own site so we can count how many people we send to each shop — that's how we can ask labels to keep supporting the site. We store the time, the release, the shop and your country (from the network, not GPS). We don't store your IP address and we don't set a cookie for this. For shops in an affiliate programme we pass a random click number to the shop's affiliate network, so we can see which clicks led to a sale; it contains nothing about you.
