How it works
BoomBapWax tracks hip-hop on physical formats — reissues, deluxe editions, anniversary pressings, colour variants, box sets and vault material on vinyl, CD and cassette. It runs almost entirely on its own.
Where the data comes from
- Every few hours our collector reads the public catalogues of the label stores and record shops listed on Labels & shops. It reads only public product data, respects each site's robots.txt and waits between requests.
- Every listing is matched to a release page by barcode where possible, otherwise by artist and title. Each variant (format, colour, pressing size) keeps its own price and stock.
- When something changes — a restock, a sell-out, a price drop, a new variant, a moved release date — it appears on the Live wire and goes out to anyone watching that release, artist or label.
Who writes the text
Nobody types the release pages. The short summaries are generated from the data we hold (formats, colours, stated pressing sizes, stock), never copied from shop descriptions. Where we use an AI model to help phrase a summary, every number and date in it is checked against our database before it is published, and the page says so.
What we don't do
- No reviews, no "best of" lists, no made-up ratings. We show facts and let you decide.
- No price claims we can't back up: every price shows when it was checked. Shops change prices and stock all the time — always confirm at the shop.
- No tracking cookies. Saved releases ("My crate") live in your own browser.
Spotted a mistake?
Automatic matching gets it wrong sometimes: a wrong artist, two editions merged, a pressing size that isn't. Email [email protected] with the page link and we'll fix it.
